Heemskerk
Project description
The Houtribdijk, that seperates the Dutch IJsselmeer and Markermeer, is an important part of the flood defence system. Because this dike no only met the accepted safety level, strengthening of this dike was required.
This project was the first ever sandy reinforcement of an inland water defence. As a Building With Nature project, besides its defensive purpose, the newly build dike reinforcement provides all kinds of other ecosystem services that are benefitial for the local flora and fauna.
To monitor the development of the sandy foreshore of the dike, Rijkswaterstaat contracted SHORE to conduct a multi-year monitoring program of the Houtribdijk. This involves topographical measurements with SHOREs Mobile LiDAR system and area covering bathymetric mapping.
